Andrew Eldritch
Commentary:
In 1980, Andrew William Harvey Taylor blessed the gothic scene by becoming the front man and leading light to a band famed under the name..Sisters of Mercy. With this band...Andrew Eldritch was born. Eldritch went to Oxford University. He is frighteningly clever, and can speak a multitude of languages. He was studying Chinese at Leeds University when he got waylaid by the first Pere Ubu album. His current interests include advanced computing, cognitive science and FC St Pauli. Although influencing many of today's underground gothic acts, Eldritch is respected, yet despised by the people who love him. He has a reputation of deeming bands "Too Gothic" and basically giving them trouble for it. The truth is, Eldritch is just as gothic as any of them, but denies it. What kind of self-respecting goth doesn't deny their own gothdom? In concert, he has been known to lash out and poke fun at his mainly gothic audiences...Some people may ask "Why would you admire a man who despises your type of people?" Well, the truth is, we are all in on Eldritch's joke. I recommend checking out Sisters of Mercy, particularly the album "Floodland", which features backup vocals by the lovely lady, Patricia Morrison.
